How do you pronounce “Aviation”?

Are you familiar with an old proverb that says “the shoemaker’s children go barefoot”? I take it as an equivalent to the Brazilian saying “em casa de ferreiro, o espeto é de pau” and I think about this proverb every time a pilot or controller mispronounces the word Aviation, for such a dear word (which actually names their field) should not be that neglected by their authorities.

Now enough with the preaching. I’ve been undeterrently talking about clangers which may reverberate throughout your speech, thus making a negative impression and, well, this one would definitely be one of them. So, give it a very careful listen:

Aviation

Pay close attention to the initial A, which is, in fact, the source of the problem. Also, try to associate the pronunciation of Aviation with other related terms that are often mispronounced, so it may be easier to memorise them all:

avionics

aviator

Now you just have to practise them aloud as many times as you need. And happy speaking🙂
